If you are make new to Notion and want an run through of ALL the basics in under xxx minutes check out this video:

Block design

Using blocks in Notion is the easiest fashion to get yourself moving.

The main types of blocks y'all volition be using are text blocks and to-do blocks. You lot tin can use block groundwork colour, text color, heading blocks and inline math to create personalized aesthetics.

Another options could exist to utilise different font styles or spacing out text to bring in a unlike feel.

Default font: Sans-serif workhorse

Option 2: Serif

Option 3: Mono

Y'all can then experiment with different block arrangements using bullet points or numbered lists. Yous tin can change font manner and colour using inline math, the options are well-nigh countless.

For styling the page y'all can create columns similar the images to a higher place past dragging any block adjacent to another to create columns.

To customize a block so that the words take a colour, and the block background has a colour, yous beginning select the block colour, and then highlight the give-and-take and select the text colour.

For added folio customization yous could create farther columns within columns for a different aesthetic.

This video shows the workaround as it is not as piece of cake as drag and drop.

Board view

If you have a weekly schedule that yous want to link to tasks, projects and other data you are storing in Notion a database would be the next best step.

A database can be viewed in lots of different way the table, list, agenda, gallery, timeline and board view.

For weekly planning the lath view may actually serve as the best way for yous to plan out your week in advance.

The main reward of using this view is the Kanban board mode. Looking at as much or as little information as you lot want with each carte du jour, and being able to program out ahead of time.

Hiding all page covers and properties

Showing page covers and the done belongings

Y'all can rearrange the twenty-four hour period guild if your week starts on Sunday, or perchance yous desire to motion the order around each twenty-four hour period to see what is up today and tomorrow.

For more a total overview of all the database views check out this video:

Calendar view

The calendar view is my personal preferred view.

The chief reason being that I can see all the tasks on the advisable days using a date holding while too showing projects in another view adjacent to it.

On the telephone the calendar view tin exist quite restrictive but with most of my time on my PC, it allows me to meet an overview of my tasks and projects with minimal effort.

This is a view I accept on my main dashboard which is filtered for events (a tag I have in my task database). This lets me run across all the events that are coming up equally I filter out the past events.

When I am looking at what actionable tasks I need to do, I will click through the linked database to see the chief database page.

On this folio, I accept another version of my task database in a calendar view. This view shows all the tasks I need to exercise on the day that I set out to do them.

You can see there are tasks that are overdue and tasks planned out for the future. I like to prove the project the job is related to, which is the second line of information in each carte du jour.

For me, using dates for activeness and due dates for accountability. I can get things done and plan things out easier in the Calendar view. Having said that, y'all could combine the board and calendar view together.

Board and Calendar combination

When looking for a weekly calendar unfortunately in Notion at that place is no weekly calendar view, at the time of writing this. Yous tin can view the timeline in a week view simply that will be discussed in the side by side section.

What I decided to exercise is combine the select property that the board view uses, and the date belongings that the calendar view uses, into a formula engagement belongings.

This lets me movement a task from ane engagement to some other using the board view and it be shown in the calendar view.

This does restrict the ability to employ the agenda to plan things out by day, as the date property is for the week.

This combination is useful if you are someone that plans your time weekly with a board view, but would similar to view and programme other weeks out ahead every bit well.

The video below shows the first version of how this work:

If your interested in getting the UPDATED template go here.

Timeline view

Notion recently introduced the timeline view. This is another view in the database options.

The departure with this view is that instead of having one viewing option where y'all tin can alter the properties that appear, you can actually modify the viewing timespan in this view.

Y'all get quite a few options that y'all can go through.

The hr view is split by fifteen minute intervals.

The solar day view by 60 minutes.

The balance by day with decreasing sizes so you tin view the unabridged timespan.

In addition to these views, something that can be useful when planning out a calendar week is the ability to show a tabular array view as well.

The timeline view is combined with a table making it in the simply view with multiple viewing options.

This ways you lot go more flexibility when showing backdrop.

The main drawback of this view is that every page you add into the database, the longer the view becomes. This could mean viewing a calendar week with multiple tasks may crave lots of scrolling up and downwardly.

This tin be rectified by using filters and sorts in the view simply once more, that is a personal preference.

To hear more about the timeline view and the other features added in the update, watch the video below:

Summary

Notion is not easy when it comes to decisions due to the vast levels of flexibility.

For simple weekly planning, use blocks to go things done.

For more than circuitous integrated planning use a database and experiment with the views.

Work out what works for you and stick with it. If it ain't broke, don't set it.
